What types of feedback does the collar provide for my dog?

The Halo Collar uses sound, vibration, or optimal static feedback. There is prevention and encouragement feedback.

How often should I charge the collar?

Each model has a different battery life. Halo Collar 5 offers up to 48 hours of use with a 1-hour charging time.

If I already own an invisible dog fence, how much training for the Halo Collar is required?

If you’re dog is already trained on another fence system, Halo can use the same sounds and settings that your dog has already learned. Either way, it is best to practice.

    Great
Great product. We live in a cellular dead zone and the collars still work great! Occasional connection issue in certain spots of our yard, but overall work wonderful. They’ve made life so much easier without a real fence. Battery life is good— about a day and a half, so we just try to charge at night. Our dogs learned and picked up the fencing quickly.

They may seem a bit pricey, but they are well worth it.
This collar has been a life saver. It was incredibly easy to set up. The tutorial walked you through the process. I have 2 dogs and purchased 2 collars. You are able to customize each collar to the individual dog. The battery life lasts for several days and will alert you when it’s getting too low. Very durable which is great since I have hunting dogs. The beep and whistle command is all my dogs need to stay in their area. My male dog would try to run all over the neighborhood. Now he gets to the edge, gets the alert (which you also get an alert on your phone) and he turns right back around. I am very thankful for these collars. They may seem a bit pricey at first, but they are well worth it.

    Halo 5. Techie Review
This is my second purchase of a Halo Collar. Back about a year and a half ago I purchased a Halo 4 and as of late the Halo 5. I upgraded because I was curious of how really improved the Halo 5 is.I am a techie by nature and although it has been just a few days I can observe the improvements.I live a little rural on a 3 acre property about 500 feet above the Bay Area. Cellular coverage is iffy at best However I do have pretty good WiFi that covers maybe 2 of the acres. The cell carriers kinda fill in the rest switching between Verizon and ATT.As advertised the GPS, Cellular, WiFi and Bluetooth work noticeably better. The sampling for feedback is quicker. The battery life is much better. The cost of this collar to me is definitely worth the quality, engineering and first class support. Thanks Halo Collar. My pooch is worth it!

Not accurate enough to safely contain dog in suburban yard
The good: Easy instructions; High quality; Great phone interface; Easy to make a custom fence in the app; great customer service. The bad: GPS is NOT accurate enough to keep your dog contained in a regular “suburban” yard. This is not Halo’s fault – but the GPS accuracy is at best 30 to 40 feet. In may case that meant the collar would beep when my lab was either in the middle of my neighbors yard (which I was trying to avoid) or still at my front door so she was terrified to go outside. Also – it only buzzed about 70% of the time and the remaining times it would not give a signal. The idea is great – but technology is not quite ready for a neighborhood yard.

    Limited usefulness outside the city.
I’m only a few days into owning two Halo 5 collars, so these are first impressions.Firstly, unless you live in the city with a strong, reliable cell signal, most of the collar’s functions are not going to work for you. The GPS fencing should still work, as long as your city lot is also treeless with a completely unobstructed view of the sky. But for me who lives where cell signals are frequently absent or just a couple of bars and have a wooded property, it’s just not working out.Secondly, I was shocked to find that your dog’s whereabouts are not recorded. If she roams where there is no cell or WiFi (which is 90% of my land), there is no way to download and review the history to she where she has been. This is a feature commonly found on collars that are literally 1/10th the cost (Tractive, $40-$50; PetLink $65, etc.). I can’t fathom why this feature isn’t offered. After all, the required hardware is already built in, all that would be necessary to implement this would be some software. This is a HUGE hole in an otherwise very capable piece of gear. The app is useful, but not intuitive. It takes a good while to learn and remember where to find all the various settings and functions. Give yourself plenty of time to get thoroughly acquainted with it before you start training. You don’t want to be fumbling around menus trying to find the whistle while your dog is racing away towards the highway! Even better than the app would be handheld remote that simply provided immediate access to the feedback functions; whistle, warning, encouragements, etc.So if you live on a treeless lot in the city or only want to use GPS fencing, the Halo 5 might work for you. But otherwise I can’t recommend. I may decide to keep the collars solely for the GPS fencing, but we’ll see.Update 1/2/26:Unfortunately, we weren’t able to make these collars work for us and will be returning them. On the positive side, the seller’s customer support has been absolutely stellar! They’ve been nothing but understanding and very helpful.

Good quality for money and more versatile than Invisible Fence
I wouldn’t rate this as well as Invisible Fence, which I had previously, but for the price it is pretty good and much more versatile than IF in that there is gps tracking in your dog’s collar so if she does break through she will not be lost (Although she is still at risk of being hit by a car or dog-napped), and you can easily reconstruct the boundary wherever you move. Everything is contained in the collar instead of a box hardwired in your house. So yes, the collar is bulkier but well-padded, so it doesn’t appear to be uncomfortable. The battery is also recharged at night so no having to buy batteries several times each year.
