Good for liquids but not smells
Works well for keeping liquids from seeping through if you catch it quickly, unfortunately it does not stop the smell of cat pee from seeping through, so definitely either layer 2 of these or have several blankets that are easy to wash beneath them if you’re worried about smell getting into hard to wash items like mattresses or couch cushions

It’s waterproof
Purchased to cover my couch. One of our cats has kidney issues and he’s recently started urinating out of box. He frustratingly has chosen the back of the couch. We also have a three legged AmStaff who has some dribbling issues and occasionally urinates a small amount in her sleep due to the original injury. After looking at a bunch of different options I decided to try this one. I purchased the largest size. It’s definitely true to size as it covered the couch exactly as expected. To make sure it was water proof, we placed a waterproof hospital bed pad that we use with our AmStaff underneath this. We covered this with a giant hospital style blanket, that we use on the couch to help protect the couch from the cats nails. Shortly after our big guy struck. After removing the outer blanket, we check and this waterproof blanket hadn’t leaked, the hospital pad was completely dry. It’s was really late so I threw the cover blanket in the washer and just spot cleaned this waterproof blanket so I could leave it on the couch to protect it throughout the night. It spot cleaned really nice. I threw it in the washer first thing in the morning. It washed and dried nicely. I did dry it on low heat as most waterproof things shouldn’t be washed or dried in hot. As an alternative you could hang it to dry as it wouldn’t take long. I’m thinking I will be buying another one as a spare. Definitely recommend this product if you’re trying to cover a couch. It tucks in nicely and stays in place without constantly have to fix it everytime someone sits on the couch. It’s soft and thin like these types of products should be.UpdateWe have washed this everyday since receiving it and it’s still looking brand new and it’s still absorbing without leaking through. I will definitely be buying another one.
