Perfect litter system.
Use the pine pellets and the cat boxWorks as it described. The urine crumbles the litter and sifts through the tray into the pan. The pine litter also absorbs odor. I was using another similar plastic cat box with hard pellets. Problem was the pellets and pee pads were expensive and did not absorb odor and the plasticHeld the odors and plastic was impossible to clean.

Easy to clean, doesn’t absorb smells
Before getting this I was using 2 of the Tidy Cats branded sifting boxes with drawers with wood pellet litter, I swapped out the larger one over a week ago, and here are my impressions. I’ll compare the 2 so you can decide what would work best for your set up. This metal box functions in the same way as the other brand but does not utilize the urine absorbing pads. This metal box is big enough for a large cat, but not too huge that you struggle for places to put it like the large tidy cats box. Since it is metal it doesn’t absorb smells like plastic and is more easily cleaned and even disinfected. It’s also a lot stronger. I most likely wouldn’t use the plastic boxes without the pads because of the smell absorption in the plastic. The pads from the Tidy cats system do not work with this one as they are too small, the metal tray is much bigger but not quite as deep. Because of this you will need to utilize a large bag and dump/scrape the metal tray into it, the wet sawdust sticks to the tray so you will need to scape it. With the Tidy cats one you can use the pads to transfer the sawdust to a smaller bag, this is handy when you are cleaning them multiple times a week. Another difference is that the plastic boxes seem to be molded where everything fits together perfectly, whereas the tray on the metal one doesn’t fit exactly flush in the box, and does not slide on a track. The metal tray can slide around a slight bit which can cause a small amount of sawdust to fall down the sides, bit the plastic boxes don’t have a full bottom so sawdust can easily fall to the floor. I also think that the tray could be a bit deeper to hold more sawdust at a time. Another concern I have is the tiny tabs that hold the plastic upper portion onto the metal box, these seem like they could break pretty easily, especially if it is being removed frequently for thorough cleaning. Which did I end up using? I’m currently using the metal and a small tidy cats box. The metal one replaced the large box because it fits more easily in the space, I like not having to use the pads, and how the metal does not absorb odors.

Good quality, but weak lifters
I like the product. My only complaint is that the lifters bend too easily, which kind of defeats the purpose of having a shifting letter box.

The best kitty litter box we’ve ever used
We love this stainless steel cat litter box because we use pellets instead of regular litter so it’s perfect for what we need and it’s really great for not holding odor

Leaks and rusts instantly
Terrible litter boxes. The trays started rusting as soon as we got them, and consistently, pee will leak out of the tray.I will be returning to regular litter, very disappointed in this

Ingenious concept
As a multi-cat household, we prefer using pine pellet litter. Most of my current boxes are stainless steel but smaller so we can just dump the whole box daily. After seeing a strep rise in my pine pellet source, it seems more economical to not dump the whole pellets that are in the box and a sifting litter box seems to be a good solution. I got some standard stainless steel sifting boxes. The draw back on this type is you must remove the top box to dump the sawdust. This box improves on the ones I already have because it has a drawer that can easily be pulled out and dumped. Also, this box while plenty big enough is not as large and thus easier to maneuver and do a full cleaning on.This box is much easier to use with the easy to remove and dump drawer. However the drawer is fairly shallow and it would be nicer if it was a little deeper so you wouldn’t need to empty it as often. The box is well made and the included litter shield cuts down on litter tracking. Although there’s room for improvement in its function, it is by far my favorite of my sifting boxes

big cat approved cleanup
This stainless steel litter box is like the VIP suite of cat bathrooms. The size alone (23.6”x15.6”x12”) makes it roomy enough for big boys like Apollo, with plenty of space to turn around without looking like he’s parking a Mini Cooper in a shoebox. The stainless steel keeps things from getting smelly and doesn’t trap odors the way plastic ones do, plus it’s ridiculously easy to wipe clean—no lingering “aroma” issues. The built-in sifter is a lifesaver. Instead of scooping forever, you just shake it through, and the clean pellets drop right back down. It cuts the whole chore time in half, and since it doesn’t need waste bags, you’re not wasting extra money or filling your trash can with plastic. The lid also helps keep pellets from launching out when your cat digs like he’s mining for gold.If I had to nitpick, the lid does make it a little bulkier, so you’ll want to place it somewhere with decent space. And stainless steel is sturdy (a huge plus for durability), but it’s not feather-light—so moving it around isn’t as effortless as a plastic box.Overall, though, this is a solid upgrade if you’re tired of odors, flimsy scoops, and constant cleanup. Big cats get comfort, you get sanity. Win-win.

When I ordered this I didn’t notice it is for use with pellet cat litter specifically which is something I’d actually never heard ofPellet litter is very easy to find online, including on Amazon and now that I’ve made the switch I probably won’t go back.I love that this sifts out waste, making cleaning the box so much faster and easier. My cat seems happy with the situation.I appreciate that the box is stainless steel so won’t harbour bacteria the way that plastic does.

“23.6”x15.6”x12” Stainless Steel Sifting Litter Box with Sifter, Pine Pellet Litter Box with Lid for Big Cats, Built-in Sifter, No Waste Bag Needed, Easy to Clean & Durable (Grey).” (Seller Declared.)- Stainless steel litter box with waste removal tray. (Approximately 22″ x 14″ x 6″ inside measurements at the top of the pan. Tapers in towards the bottom.)- Has a plastic splash shield. (Shield snaps onto the pans top lip and measures approximately 6″ high on the back and sides.) (Shield drops down on the front for easy entry.)- Comes with a plastic scoop. (Scoop sits in the holder that hangs loosely on the side of the plastic shield.- Has a sieve pan that sits inside the main pan. (This pan fits nicely inside and is around 1″ shallower than the main pan.)- Has a main pan with a slot on the front at the bottom. (This slot allows the drip pan to slip in under the sieve pan.) (This slot was simply punched out and has no reinforcing at all. It does have a plastic strap that covers the sharp edges.)- Has a drip/ catch pan. (This pan slips into the main pan with a lot of room on the sides.) (Need to make sure that the pan catches all the holes in the drip pan when inserting it as there is a lot of slop to the sides.)- Comes with 4 sticky pads. (These are used on the bottom to protect your floors.)In my opinion this pan was not properly designed and has no reinforcement around the drip pan opening in the main pan. Thy should have punched a smaller hole then sniped and folded the excess to make a firm opening. In my video you can see the metal flex. The drip pan is too small and should have been wider with a smaller lip that fits the opening better so you don’t have to line it up; just insert it. The pellets are still a fairly new idea and are quite costly to buy so I have yet to acquire them for further testing. Due to the large openings in the sieve pan there are no real alternatives. As is, I cannot recommend this product. I may modify it to better meet my needs and perhaps use normal litter. If not I will update my review if I get the pellets. I give this product a 3/5. I think the pellets would be too rough on their feet so I am reluctant to pursue this any further.

In theory, this litter box should be a game changer. It’s stainless steel, so it won’t absorb odours, it’s non-stick, and it’ll probably last forever. That alone makes it worth considering if you’re tired of replacing plastic boxes every year. The built-in sifter is what really caught my attention, though—it’s designed to separate clean litter from waste, meaning less mess and less waste overall. In practice, it’s a bit more complicated. The sifting feature only works properly with pellet-based litter that breaks down after use. I had been using a clumping litter before, and that just doesn’t work here—it ends up doing the opposite of what you want, where the clean litter gets sifted out and the dirty litter stays behind. I didn’t realize this until after it arrived, so I had to order new litter specifically for it. That’s not a dealbreaker, but it’s worth knowing upfront before you buy.As for my cats… one of them immediately decided this was an affront to her dignity and started pooping in my shoes instead (a fun new hobby I’ll now have to break). I’ll admit that’s more on me for not introducing her to it properly, so I’m not docking any points for that. My other stainless steel box (without the sifting feature) gets full approval from all three cats, so I’m confident the material itself is solid and cat-safe.

If this is your first metal litterbox & you use pellet litter, this isn’t the worst option you could get. The size is pretty good and the metal makes cleanup easier. The smell will be better. However, washing this is a bit more annoying than anything else. My cat is a menace and loves to dig an empty spot then pee on the bottom and THEN bury it. With this, the pee just pools at the bottom. Additionally, it limits you to what type of litter you can use. I don’t remember the price, since there isn’t one visible, but if this is more than 50CAD, I don’t think I can recommend it for anyone other than those with polite cats that exclusively use pellets.Personally, this was a disaster for my cat. She hated it, but this could help a lot of people. Carefully consider what your cats habits are before purchase.4.5 Stars IF the price is under 45CAD and your cat suits this.3 Stars if the price is over, or if your cat is a menace like mine.

I’ll admit that it’s an interesting design concept and could appeal to a lot of people! Pellets as litter will dissolve into sawdust when they get wet enough, and of course gravity dictates that liquid will flow down. So, the bottom layer of pellets will absorb the urine, crumble up, and then with a little swishing with the litter scoop, they’ll fall through the holes into the tray below, leaving only mostly-dry pellets and solid waste in the upper area.I’ve always found scooping the crumbled bits pretty easy – just flick the still-hard pellets over to the side, then scoop the sawdust. So this box is reinventing the wheel a little more than something so simple might require. Especially since the bottom tray isn’t deep, so it’s not like it’ll help you go without scooping for a week or something. If you typically have your pellets fairly deep in the first place, this isn’t much of an advantage and might even be annoying because you have to have enough room to pull the whole tray out, and then a bag or bin wide enough to dump it into. Plus, you’ll still have to swish with the scoop to ensure the pellets are broken and fall through the holes. Unless you’re lucky and your cat will dig enough to do it for you. That said, it’s a reasonably attractive litterbox, the steel is easy to wash and sanitize, the walls are adequately high (and the seam is correctly designed so if you cat wees back onto the wall, the liquid flows down into the tray, not through the gap and out the back), and your cat won’t step in the damp sawdust.I’m torn on this box. I’m intrigued by the concept, and my cats did use it, and it does work. But I’m not sure it makes my life any easier, or my cats any happier, and I definitely don’t love pulling the tray out and wrangling it. So for me, it’s a “no, thank you”, but I think some people and cats will disagree, and that’s okay, too!
