    A great brand, noticeable results.
I’m not an air quality expert by any means, but I jumped at the chance to test and review this purifier after having a great experience with another Afloia unit. Before, I had cheaper units from the ~$30 range before that didn’t seem to make any noticeable difference in air quality. Since then I replaced them with one from the $100 range (Afloia Miro Pro) and it has made a truly noticeable difference in our house with 4 pets.I started using this Pluto in another room and have found it to be a great machine that works just as well in terms of air quality. Its loud (to me) because I run it on High, but I also don’t mind the white noise — hard to explain but it’s a smooth loud like the sound of air traveling through your vents, not an intrusive loud like fan blades make.Within a couple days of using an Afloia machine in my bedroom all day/night, I could actually tell a major difference in my ease of breathing and reduced sneezing in the morning… again… with 4 pets! Now the only confusing part for me is that I’m not understanding why the Pluto is (currently) $20 more than the Kilo model… I’m not sure if I’m just misunderstanding the spec comparison, but I just don’t see the difference in the 2 machines. My feedback to the company is that they should make it more apparent what sets this machine apart from their others. All said and done, I’ve had great results and Afloia is becoming a household name around here. All the machines have been excellent, but if I had to choose, my favorite would be the Miro Pro ($100) for the excellent humidifier addon. Either way you cant go wrong.

It’s a really good machine combined with a superior filter…
I’m going to give a lot of information here because the machine does a lot of things right and for the benefit of those who have never had a purifier I’ll explain some of the why. Some of the basics first, if you’re looking at this thinking it’s like the cute little machines that are discounted everywhere, keep in mind those stand about 10in tall and this one is pushing toward 15in. Think of it as the big brother. That means the fan, the filter, everything is bigger, but they haven’t just increased size, they’ve reworked the pieces too and made improvements. As you unpack the machine and remove the filter and plug from inside, you might notice the filter stands up about half the height of the machine, what you wouldn’t notice (but I do since I have other machines) is that it’s also bigger around the circumference than the filter in other machines this size. To give you a sense, I weighed it. It’s about twice the weight you would normally expect in the filter this size. Why? To start with it has 4 layers, one is a pre-filter that wraps around and uses a hook and loop strip to secure itself. You can remove it and wash it to catch the big stuff and extend your filter life. There’s another attached pre-screen below it. Then there’s the Hepa layer and after that the carbon layer. The Hepa standards are pretty specific about filter structures, so I always put a light behind them to make sure they’ve checked the boxes I can see since I can’t see or measure the very small particles they capture. Everything I see looks good. The inside of the filter is where the carbon lattice is. If you have seen circular filters before (I’ve reviewed many), this one is in its own class. Usually on a round filter the manufacturers use an type of mesh which has active carbon adhered to it. As you get into the bigger box-style machines they will move to active carbon pellets. Since carbon acts like a sponge latching onto the VOC molecules in the air, I personally like the pellets because they give more absorbing material. They’ve combined both in this filter. I had a hard time getting a clear picture, but in the picture where you see a grey lattice up close with black spots behind it, those black spots are the pellets on the mesh. I’ve seen this combination in a larger box machine, this is the first circular filter and might be the smallest machine where I’ve seen it. It’s an impressive filter! The machine has 3 speed settings and one sleep setting (which is slower and quieter than the lowest speed setting). When they tell you the watts the machine pulls (and I appreciate when manufacturers do), they’re talking about the top of the range maximum. I went ahead and looked at the running watts for each speed so you’d have that information. It’ll vary as your filter collects debris over time, but most of the time you’ll probably run the machine on its lowest setting. I actually have machines with auto sensors, and they rarely see enough of a change to speed up. Frankly, I usually ask Alexa what the current AQI is. If Alexa says it’s becoming unhealthy outside, I don’t wait, I speed up my machines pre-emptively and then slow them back down to sleep mode when the trouble has passed. When this one is in sleep mode, you might not know it’s even running. I couldn’t hear it over my central air. If this will be your first machine, it’s a good one. If it’s your second or third, I think you’ll be pleased with the improvements.

Small and Good Looking Air Purifier
I wish all vendors of air cleaners would be honest. The only numbers that matters are CADR (Clean Air Delivery Rate), and CFM (cubic feet per minute). This vendor is no different. It lists the capacity at 1,076 square feet, which is about a 25×40 room. However, the CADR for this filter is about 1/4th or 269 square feet (a nice-sized bedroom or 15×18). For its size and price, 269 is a good number.Appearance. Very nice looking unit. It is 14 inches high and white. This will look very good in a bedroom.Sound Level. On low, I can barely hear the unit. I typically run air purifiers on high all day long and then switch them to sleep mode at night. However, keep in mind that in sleep mode, the air-cleaning ability is dramatically reduced. The 269 sq feet number is on the highest fan setting.Unpacking. You have to take the unit apart. The power adapter is inserted into the filter. The filter is wrapped in plastic. That saves on space and possibly shipping costs, but I prefer the power adapter to have its own space within the product box. Otherwise, preparing the unit for first use is very simple.Air quality. Within 15 minutes, I noticed a cleaner smell in the air. I need to run the unit for several weeks to know. I often have sneezing attacks when it gets windy outside (pollen from the trees) or when the landscapers are here. I will update this item once I have more data after those events.Update: My sneezing attacks dropped to zero when the wind is blowing pollen around. I am very happy.Value. Inexpensive for an air purifier of this size.Summary. I like this air purifier. It is small, good-looking, and appears to make a difference in my air quality. I think for the price, you really cannot lose.
