About Us
DeMite Laundry Additive was created in the mid-1990s by Larry and Shirlee Kalstone as a response to studies showing that dust mite allergic patients should wash all bedding in very hot (140 degrees or hotter) water to remove the source of allergy triggers – the dust mite waste. Around that same time, there were also studies that indicated that adding benzyl benzoate to the wash water would accomplish the same thing but without the need for extremely hot water.
The Kalstones knew that fabrics both fade and degrade in hot water washing and that turning your hot water heater to temperatures as high as 140 degrees could also cause scalding. Additionally, it is very expensive to keep water heated to 140 degrees in your home. However, without hot water or a laundry additive, less than 10% of mite waste was removed during a normal wash cycle.
The goal was to create a product that would accomplish the elimination of the dust mite waste allergy triggers in any temperature wash water so that hot water was not an essential element. The result was one of the most effective and popular dust mite waste removal products available to allergic patients and their families. DeMite is highly effective at removing dust mites from bedding, with its effects typically lasting 30 days (or even more). Using DeMite in warm or cold water helps preserve fabric quality over time. It is safe for all fabrics, including delicate materials like silk and wool, and can be used with both fabric softeners and bleach alongside regular detergent. Additionally, it is septic-system safe. To maintain its effectiveness, bedding should be washed with DeMite at least every 30 days.

Why DeMite? The Hassle-Free Solution that Works with Your Routine Removes dust mite waste from fabrics in your laundry Does not require scalding hot water to work; effective at any temperature, even cold water Gentle on sensitive skin + no added fragrance
What’s the Big Deal with Dust Mites? What are Dust Mites?
Dust mite are tiny bugs that commonly live in house dust. They are close relatives of ticks and spiders, and are too small to see without a microscope. Dust mites eat skin cells shed by people, and they thrive in warm, humid environments. In most homes, they’re most commonly found in places like bedding, carpet, and upholstered furniture.
Why Do they Cause Allergies?
Over 20 million Americans suffer from an allergy to dust mite waste, making them one of the most common culprits of indoor allergies.
Dust contains the waste and decaying bodies of dust mites. The proteins present in this dust mite waste are the main culprit and trigger irritating symptoms for those allergic to them.

Symptoms vary in severity from person to person, and can include:
Runny noseRed, itchy, watery eyesSneezingDifficulty breathingNasal stuffiness and congestionCoughingBurning feeling in the throatHeadachesFatigue

Dust mites live in mattresses, carpets, overstuffed furniture, clothing, curtains, drapes, bedding, towels, and even stuffed toys. What’s more, once dust mite waste settles in, it can be set afloat into the air again and again when someone changes the bedding, walks across a rug, sits down on an upholstered sofa or chair, fluffs a pillow, or shakes the bed clothes, giving asthma and allergy sufferers immediate symptoms.

Actually, it’s not house dust mites themselves that cause an individual’s sneezing and runny nose, but the proteins in both their fecal pellets and their exoskeletons. For allergy sufferers, inhaling dust mite waste can cause year-round symptoms. High levels of dust mite waste are also associated with atopic dermatitis – an allergic skin condition frequently referred to as eczema, characterized by itchy, dry, reddened, and scaly skin.

A godsend to remove dust mite alllergens from clothes!
I have used this product for years and it really has been a life changer for me. I am super allergic to dust mites and for years had issues with bedding and clothes until I found this product. It does have a strong smell but I have found it goes away with a second washing without it. I am very thankful this product! It really does remove the allergens and allows me to live a irritation-free and drug-free lifestyle now and I never have dust mite issues with my clothes after washing with it!

Works like a Charm
Been using this product for more than a decade. I rely on it as I have allergies to dust mite residue on my sheets. I put it in every wash, and as a side benefit, bugs never fly near me when I am out. Mosquitos stay away.

dust mite killing instructions
This stuff did the trick. Having a dust mite outbreak was absolutely terrible and I tried a spray bottle of mite killer which did help a lot but just wasn’t quite enough so I ordered this and the mite proof enclosed pillow and mattress cases. Honestly if you are even here reading this review you probably have a dust mite problem and this is what worked for me.1. Bottle of Premo bed bug, lice, and mite killer spray, 24oz (it comes in a spray bottle but the mist on that thing is awful so I dumped an almost empty febreze bottle and moved it to that because the mist mode on a febreze bottle means business) this I used for my couches (3 days in a row) and a couple times going over the carpeted areas in the house.2. This product. Washed all my bedding, pillow cases, and blankets in this (3 days in a row) then used the spray on the bare mattress.3. Wrapped my pillows and mattress in Sureguard mite cases. You will notice an immediate difference once you put these on, but to kill the mites not trapped in the cases you need this laundry additive. After 3 days of washing I was mite free, but I have still been washing my stuff with the laundry additive just to be on the safe side but I’m going to stop adding it soon, because it’s been a few weeks since they’ve been gone. anyways, good luck hope this helps somebody.

Smaller that I thought
For the price I thought I was getting a liter. I finished this off in a couple of weeks. We still have some that we bought previously for the laundry to use in the rinse. You can’t get rid of mites until you get rid of the source of the infestation. For treating mites on my skin I’ll use another product.

Great product for basset hound! Please Read…
This product was recommended for my basset hound that has allergies. One big allergy is house dust. This product was recommended by his Allergy Dermatologist. I trust his doctor and would not use it if I felt it was detrimental to his health. I do not mind the smell at all and once bedding etc. is dry i don’t notice a smell. It’s a great product. I feel it helps us too. I wash our blankets on the sofa in it. We are very happy with this product. I have an LG front load washing machine. I measured amount and permanently marked cup to know amount each time I wash. I add it to liquid detergent and all wash great!

Odor
Works, but just beware it does leave your clothes with a very strong odor that I was sensitive to.

Good shelf life
I have tried other dust mite laundry products(to save money) and other products do not have a good shelf life. This item has a very good shelf life This item does NOT discolor or start growing green stuff after opening(other products I’ve tried start growing green things in it after about 3 weeks of opening bottle). At first I thought it was a fluke that the other products were growing green stuff. Then it happened over and over again. I wish this product was a little less expensive but it is a good product.
