Not soft, but very durable
I seriously don’t know how this thing has survived all the constant abuse my 3 dogs have put it thru! 😆 It has lasted at least 6 months, which makes it a great purchase IMO.My dogs are older – so they’re all past the phase of chewing on their bedding. But they’re absolutely horrible about tearing up their beds with their nails.For reference, I have 2 Chihuahuas and an English Bull Terrier. If you don’t know, some Chihuahuas love to burrow. And English Bull Terriers just get crazy whenever they get on a mattress. I don’t know why. It’s just a reaction that’s pre-programmed into their brains.My Chihuahuas don’t understand that they can’t actually burrow into mattresses and other structured dog beds. So they’ll try to dig into whatever bed we give them for at least 10 minutes before they settle for simply burrowing under their blanket. If they ever get to the point where they’re able to scratch a big hole in the bed, well… they won’t stop “digging” until they’re buried under all the stuffing material. These guys just love to destroy beds like that.Both of the Chihuahuas have been digging at this mattress encasement about 4-8 times per day (each).My English Bull Terrier likes to spin in circles when he gets on a mattress of any kind. Doesn’t matter if it’s a tiny chair cushion, a squishy bathroom mat, his designated bed, or my furniture that he’s not supposed to be on. Sometimes he spins slowly while repeatedly scratching at the mattress for up to 35 min before he finally knocks out for a deep sleep. Other times, he starts spinning wildly and bucking out of sheer excitement that he’s about to lay down. He spins so violently that he needs to grip his nails into the bed just to stop himself… all so he can start spinning in the opposite direction. He’ll carry on like this for up to 15 minutes if we don’t try to stop him.Either way, my Bull Terrier’s usually doing one of these crazy behaviors on the same mattress encasement about 2-5 times a day.Every day, I vacuum the mattress encasement. And every day I think, “Today will be the day I find out the dogs have destroyed this thing.”But nope… it has been *at least* 6 mos this thing is still fully intact. No tears or holes yet. Not even any badly worn out spots that look questionable. The mattress encasement still looks nice.As far as durability goes, this mattress encasement is excellent. I love it. I am completely satisfied with it. Now, do my dogs like it? No. A big no actually. 😆 It’s obvious they would prefer a much softer surface material.I mostly got this mattress encasement to protect the expensive doggy beds within it. I layered 2 dog mattresses inside of it. The encasement keeps both mattresses clean and neatly stacked together, and it prevents my dogs from shredding everything up.I put a couple of small, soft blankets on top of the mattress encasement for additional comfort. Otherwise, the dogs really wouldn’t want to lay on the bed.If my dogs end up clawing some of the blankets off the mattress, they will actually lay wherever the blanket falls – no matter how awkwardly it’s laid out. If they have to rest with their bodies half hanging out kennel, across the raised door opening and onto the hard floor, they’ll do it – just bc they prefer the comforting feel and maybe warmth of the blanket.(I tried soft fitted sheets, but they shredded all of those up within a few weeks. Small, loose blankets are the only soft things that can seem to survive their crazy digging and spinning.)If I don’t cover the mattress encasement with a blanket, the dogs will actually act like the kennel flooring is completely bare and hard. They won’t want to lay in it unless I tell them to. Then they act like I’ve just punished them. 😆 It’s as if they don’t realize or don’t care that there’s a very cushioning mattress within the scratchy encasement cover.This is just something you might want to consider if you have picky dogs.I’m not docking any stars for the lack of softness. I’ve been thru way too many dog mattresses, covers, and encasements over the years. I know you have to sacrifice softness if you want a high level of durability. My dogs just happen to require a ton of durability. There’s no middle ground with them. This product meets my expectations. It has saved me a ton of time, effort, and money on bedding cleaning, repair, and replacement. 👍 I recommend it.

Durable, well-fitting, quality
This is a perfect cover — it fit perfectly and is very durable. My dog can’t eat or shred it, tosses easily into the wash, doesn’t even stain. I’m so glad I found it. It’s not cozy feeling, but my dog seems to like it.

well-made, but crackly
This is a sturdy dog bed cover with a nice long zipper, but it’s a sort of plastic material, so it’s noisy when a doggo changes position on it, plus the material is on the cool side—not ideal for winter. I returned the one I received, but it did appear to be well-made.
