Customers say

Customers find the hide perfect for geckos and appreciate its appearance, with one noting its “mushrooms and fairies” vibe. Moreover, the product effectively retains moisture and humidity, and customers like its hideability, with one mentioning it’s great for shedding. However, the moss quality receives mixed feedback, with several customers noting it’s not made with real moss. Additionally, the wire thickness is a concern, with visible wires on the inside, and some customers report the product starts to rust.

    Picky hermit crab’s heaven
This product is truly outstanding. I am a new hermit crab owner and have been trying to make my crab happy and comfortable. I bought everything they told me to get, and yet, my crab dig himself into the sand ALL the time and just wasn’t happy. I saw this product and recognized it from many crab habitats I’ve looked at online. As soon as I installed this item in the habitat, close to the terrarium humidifier, my crab crawled its way in. Checked it out and stayed there for the longest time. Last time I checked, he was hanging out in there. I am very happy I finally found something that mimics its endemic environment. It is cozy and brings a nice sturdy metal chain to hang into the top of the terrarium, although I am not currently using it that way, It can be detached if necessary. It retains the humidity thus creating a warm environment where my crab enjoys spending time at.It is very simple, yet, it makes sense. Size is good, I believe I will be able to use it for a while. I do recognize I will have to purchase another one to keep it fresh but that is necessary for all other reptile, crab habitat I guess. Humidity dose that.Great product, I will purchase again.

For those looking to put in Aquarium/Fish Tank Read Below
After 3 months in a fish tank. Wanted to give a review after a few months of ownership. I purchased 2 of these for my 55 Gal fish tank a few months ago ago. If you’re putting a fish tank I highly suggest you submerge it in water first before putting In fish tank as it here is some green coloring that comes off in the water. Speaking of color, for those wondering this is what it looks like under water, it first comes bright green but then turns brownish fairly quick (might be my water parameters but other plants seem fine). The product looks great and works great! The reason I am giving it 4 stars and not 5 (even though I know it wasn’t made for aquariums) is because of the coloring as well none of my fish seem to stay in it, they all go inside, smell and then leave immediately so I’m basing the stars on their reaction to it.P.s no fish has gotten sick or died since I added these in a few months ago but that is likely cause I submerged and rinsed thoroughly before adding in

Good product, well made, perfect for lizards, frogs, and snakes.
4”hideout.I bought 2….. I’m a goober and should have paused and thought about how big (or small) 4” is. Lol. I have an adult crested gecko and of course she doesn’t fit!! Hahaha. But I stuck them her cage anyway. My took my girl awhile to warm up to them but when she did she crawled all over them. She loves them. I’ll get her the 6” for sure. The natural moss is shoved into a wire structure. The basic shape is made with a thick gage and then there’s a small gage wire wrapped around the larger gage to keep the shape and give the moss something to hang onto. It’s a great product. Well made. The moss drys out pretty quickly and it doesn’t necessarily get all the moisture it needs to stay supple from misting so plan on soaking the balls about once a week depending on your environment and temperature.I will caution everyone to to run your hands inside and out squeezing the moss as you go once you unpack your moss balls. Look for loose wire ends. I found several, mostly the large gage wire ends near or at the mouth of the moss ball. The ends are sticking out enough and sharp enough to inflict serious damage to an unsuspecting lizard, snake, or frog. A quick snip or maybe a glob of nontoxic sealant or hot glue should does the trick. I used hot glue and made a small end piece on the large gage wire. Worked like a charm.

  5. That guy, that sometimes buys stuff on Amazon

    Cool
I want to give this more stars i LIKE it. Only, it needs better “suspension” options… especially if were supposed to get it wet.

This is not real moss; do not buy – updated
I have already posted a review about this terrible product sometime in July (I believe Amazon removed it because I cannot see my past pictures). Therefore I will make the same comment again. The “moss” used in this mossball cave is not moss, but some sort of artificial plant. The picture on the left is a small piece from the mossball cave that was taken with a complex microscope in my lab. The picture in the middle is a picture of a green artificial lay leaf taken with a complex microscope in my lab. The picture on the right is a real bryophyte taken with a complex microscope from a quick google search. It can clearly be seen that the real moss has cells. Oval-like shapes are clearly defined in the real moss picture. The two examples of synthetic plants has the same texture – no clearly defined cells and a outer layer that looks somewhat fuzzy. The differences of these pictures show that the mossball cave leaves look the most similar to an artificial lay that I got at a party. It does NOT look like a microscope picture of a real moss leaf. This mossball cave is not just artificial dye being used, but also just not real moss. I would suggest that no one buys this to put into a vivarium with a real animal. I would have been devastated to find my pet snails dead by ingesting something possibly plastic. I would only use this in a terrarium (no animals) or as some sort of cute plant holder. I would not put this near any animals that might ingest it.Since I could not find my last comment, here is my update: Its been several months now I have left this mossball cave on a bookshelf with no watering at all. This mossball cave is still green. There is no possible way moss would still hold a green color and stay spry/fresh without any water. I have moss, that I collected from a nearby park, that have gone brown or died even with watering inside of my regularly watered vivarium. This is just more support that this mossball cave is not made with real moss and this company needs to state that this product is all artificial. It is irresponsible for Amazon to allow this product to be sold and bought while pets are harmed or killed.

Amazing!!!!! Can hang it if you have a tall cage or you can remove the hanging chain and use it just in any small enclosure for any small to medium reptile, etc. I’m sure even rodents would love it

I love these moss hides. If your little creature doesn’t like it, maybe its preys will use it as a shelter. It’s beautiful in a terrarium and has a very natural appearance overall. The only issue I have is that it can “shed” its moss as you manipulate it, so it can get a bit messy when you move it or want to clean your terrarium. Other than that it’s a nearly flawless hide!

He usually loves to hide for days, especially after eating but he ate yesterday and came out to explore this within a few hours of putting it in his cage!
