Customers say

Customers find the snappy trainer effective as a training aid for counter surfers and appreciate its safety features. However, the product’s functionality and build quality receive mixed reviews – while some say it works well for dog training, others report it doesn’t work with smart dogs and has poor quality. Moreover, durability is a concern as units fall apart easily, and customers consider it a waste of money.

    Take That, Doggo!
Acquired a larger standard poodle, well able to stand and stick his head nearly all the way across the kitchen counter, helping himself to anything while you stepped out of the room. I tried catching him in the act and scolding. Nothing. I tries shock mats, on the floor and on the counter. I think he just learned to delicately avoid them or just decided that the treat was worth the shock. No win there, either. Then I tried these. First, no matter what the situation was in 2015, these are exactly the ones offered on the maker web site. It’s essentially a classic Victor mouse trap, right down to the Victor trademark. A stuff plastic paddle is attached to the bale, the mouse killing part. It is the Victor Wide Peddle Mouse Trap with the plastic platform where the classic has metal.Simple to set, just like the mouse trap. You could attach the “bait” to the platform, but I just set it on the paddle where the dog will inevitably trip the release. Caught him twice before he gave it up and now avoids the counter entirely. He looks, but you can see the bad memory in his eyes. I’ve left hotdog pieces now twice while they dried up, and no takers. If he ever gets up the nerve to do it again, I’ll bring out the slappers again. They’re not going to hurt him. It’s just plastic sheet, just thick enough to be stable and produce an effect. The noise alone is pretty fierce. They are very visible. Red paddle and yellow bait platform But dogs see those colors as mostly gray, so it’s just another thing on the counter. It would be a genius dog to recognize that shape, and with the way it works, he really has no time to ponder what happened. The only thing that connects with the slap is the bait, which is exactly what we want to associate. He just knows that when he tried for the food, something distressing happened. I expect they would work for most places, like furniture. I would not be surprised if several of them couldn’t cure digging under a fence or in a garden.

Not a hit with all animals, but worked for me.
I gave this 5 stars, even though it definitely won’t work on all animals. It worked for both my dogs. Cured counter surfing for one, and sneaking on furniture for the other. I continued to use them when my dogs were young when I left the house. I left them out for a few months, until I was confident (with the help of a camera) that the dogs were conditioned not to do it anymore. One dog set the traps off twice, the other dog once, and never went near those spots again.Recently, I discovered the counter surfer is picking up a new annoying habit of licking the kitchen floor when I leave. Even if the floor is freshly cleaned, he’ll lick over the whole area in front of the sink. I was able to use these devices to stop him. I’ll leave one in front of the sink until his mind is conditioned not to go near the area after I leave. Its inexpensive, and well worth a shot. Also, quite entertaining at times. I left one on my kitchen table for the counter surfer. I got so used to seeing it there. I neglected to remove it when I had a family member over for dinner. She didn’t know what it was and didn’t ask. She accidentally touched it about halfway through her dinner.

Used to be great, now….not so much
I bought a 3 pack of these back in April 2014 to stop my dog from counter surfing. Worked like a charm. So, when my dog started going on other counters and our dining room table, I needed more. So I ordered more in June 2015. I don’t know what has changed between my 2 orders but the newest 3 pack is of very poor quality. I can’t set the new ones without the red paddle popping off. If I didn’t want the paddle to stay on, I’d just buy mouse traps at a fraction of the price.Solid product in theory, but cutting costs has led to a worthless product.

    Okay prouduct…but doesn’t work 100%
I recently adopted a new baby Siamese kitten. She is so much fun, but has a very large amount of energy. This results in her running all over my apartment, constantly jumping onto tables, chairs, etc. For the most part I don’t mind this, but I was looking for a way to keep her off my kitchen table and off my desk where my computer is. I heard about the Snappy Trainer and decided to buy a pack. The product came decently packaged in an Amazon box with air bubble packaging. The snappy trainers themselves are in a plastic bag with a cardboard title card that has a diagram on the back explaining how to use Snappy Trainers. This “how to” guide consists of actual photographs of the Snappy Trainer with a written explanation. Honestly I don’t think the photographs were particularly helpful and would have preferred a drawn diagram instead because the photographs were not very clear. These essentially work like a standard mouse trap where you must pull the spring back and “lock” it in place. The idea is that when pressure is placed on the Snappy Trainer it will snap shut, but without actually trapping your pet. The red part of this product is just a pliable plastic that does not hurt when the product snaps shut. I have tested this on myself and it honestly does not hurt at all. When testing this with my cat, I set the Snappy Trainers on the table where she usually jumps onto. While I was fiddling trying to set these up, my cat became very curious, so as soon as I set them down and walked away she immediately ran up to them and started sniffing. She ended up triggering two of the traps on two separate tables. Each time she immediately jumped and ran away. Success!!This is what occurred initially, however I have noted some problems since then. Most notably that sometimes, these don’t actually snap shut unless you put pressure on the yellow part of the trap. Which is exactly what my cat figured out pretty quickly. So now she just walks around the trap or just walks on the red plastic part and she has nothing to worry about. As a result she still climbs onto the tables. These technically work however, I feel like I would need to have the entire table covered with them in order to achieve any lasting results. On a side note, one of the Snappy Trainers in my 3-pack, came slightly damaged. This one still functions fine, but the plastic has pockmarks all over it, so it is certainly not in pristine condition.Overall these technically work, but I am either going to need to buy a lot more, or I am going to have to find another way of keeping my cat off of the tables.
