My Hamster loves it
I bought Kaytee Forti-Diet Pro Health for my pet rat/mouse/hamster and it seems to be doing alright on it. The food is a complete, pelleted diet that includes probiotics and prebiotics for digestion, and it has some variety in texture to keep my pet interested. I haven’t noticed any significant changes in my pet’s health since switching to this food, but they seem to be eating it consistently and it doesn’t have a strong odor. Overall, it seems like a decent option for a basic small pet food.

Great food for the cost
I thought the product might be a bit stale, but when I opened the bag it was clear as to how fresh this was. It had a moistness to it that was pleasing. You don’t want stale food as that means a lot of the nutrients you want the animals to eat will have vanished. I used to buy bags of very fresh food from a not so local feed store, and then discovered that my rats would selectively eat what they wanted, so there was more food waste that I liked. With pellets, that didn’t happen.

Excellent but Disintegrates Easily
I’ve used both Kaytee Forti Diet Pro Health and Oxbow Regal Adult Rat Food to feed my rats. Personally I prefer the Kaytee brand but I imagine both are completely acceptable for adult rats. However, for rats under 1 year of age, I would probably suggest the Kaytee Forti Diet due to the higher protein content. The main differences between the two are that the Kaytee brand has a large block size, includes probiotics, and has a higher protein content. The Regal brand is about the size and shape of your average dry cat food, does not include probiotics, and has a lower protein content. Though I don’t particularly enjoy the smell of either, I think the Regal brand smells absolutely horrible. My rats have generally preferred the larger block sizes of the Kaytee brand, and I do too as when I go to clean out the cage I can more easily pick out the larger Kaytee blocks.I’ve read some concerns about the Kaytee brand having too high a protein content for adult rats, and for some adult rats this may prove true, but any rat under one year of age is still relatively young and can probably use that increased protein content. It’s not that difficult to tell if your rat is getting too much protein. If they’re not having skin issues, don’t worry about it. If they start developing skin issues, lower the dietary protein content and see if it resolves. The one thing I don’t like about the Kaytee brand is that the blocks disintegrate rather easily and there’s always a whole bunch of crushed pellets and dust at the bottom of the bag. This is true even if I buy it at the local pet shop where it hasn’t been thrown around during shipping. The Regal brand does not suffer from this problem.All-in-all, this is a great rat food and I would argue better than the Regal brand if you have a rat under one year of age. Just remember, the Kaytee and Regal blocks should only make up the base of your rat’s diet. They should still be additionally offered fresh veggies, fruits, etc. I like to eat yoghurt and then give the rats the container to lick clean before it goes into the recycling bin (that’s a huge win-win) and they also enjoy dried cranberries (very cheap at the store) so much you would think they’re crack. Broccoli is also a favorite, and if I make a dish that requires broccoli florets, they’re always more than happy to deal with the stump.

Very good food
My 3 rats lived this food so much! It is full of good nutrients but I probably over fed them on this. Nonetheless, the best rat food Iāve ever boughten

My mice like it
I was concerned my mice wouldnāt like these because they didnāt eat the pellets in the other mix I got, but they gobbled them up! What a relief, the other mix I got was tasty to them but not as healthy. These pellets will balance their diet a bit better. I still add some of the tasty mix they enjoyed, but make it mostly pellets in their bowl. The size of these seems quite large for a mouse, but I havenāt found that they have any issues eating them.

Hamster loves this food
Each hamster is different, and while the other hamsters we’ve owned eventually came off of these pellets, the current ham loves these. Product shipped in good condition – buy with confidence.Unrelated tips for a healthy happy hamster:Pet stores won’t advise you this because it would affect sales of their “pocket pets” (horrible term)… but please make sure your hamster has a SAFE, free range area set up each night (free of pets and little kids). They LOVE to run around and explore, and if you stick to a strict routine each night, they won’t do neurotic things like chew the cage bars. They are meant to roam 3-6 miles a night in the wild, so keeping them caged (or in those plastic balls) is not ideal. Please don’t purchase a hamster if you can’t commit to at least 2-3 hours of supervised free time a night. While the hamster is free ranging, if you leave their cages on the floor with a ramp or makeshift steps to their cage doors, they will go in and out of their cages for food/water/naps. You can also leave wheels and flying saucers outside of their cages, and they will run on them while free ranging. Also, please be careful that your metal wheels don’t have any sharp areas (I’ve seen wheels with powder coated steel SPIKES sold at P**co) – better yet, try a Wodent Wheel (made for sugar gliders). Always go for wheels big enough so that the hamster’s backs don’t arch when they run. My syrian uses an 11″ wheel, and lives in a huge cage to accommodate the wheel’s size.

Decent quality
Not as great as other brands but definitely helped in a pinch, the rats didn’t like it as much and had excess amount of dust

Arrived quickly, I have purchased this before as well, my only complaint was the bag was broken upon arrival, split at the bottom.
Barb –
Arrived today. Expected pellets but half of the bag is crumbs and powder. Not impressed and won’t buy again!
