Best Large Dog Fountain on the Market
This is actually the second time we have purchased the PetSafe Drinkwell 2-gallon fountain. Our old one died after close to a decade, which woke up with the most terrible screeching sound as it died. We were surprised this pet fountain lasted this long, especially with two giant Alaskan Malamutes constantly drinking out of it, abusing it, and us accidentally letting the fountain run out of water sometimes (you know, since it makes the most terrible sound when this happens. Hoping to get something cheaper, we tried another PetSafe fountain (which had a water basin that was too small) and other cheaper ones, but we gave up and just went back to our tried and true fountain. It isn’t the best looking out there, but it’s a workhorse.We love this water fountain so much because it has an enormous basin for holding water and high walls to keep your dogs from making a huge mess. This is important when you have two dogs drinking at the same time. Sure, they still find ways to get water out of the fountain, but this is what silicone pet mats are made for (which we have under the fountain). Also, the fountain is easy to clean, the two filters are inexpensive in bulk (and have many knock-offs that work), and it honestly just lasts. One of the changes they made since we purchased it last was the motor not being as enclosed, which is good since you can take it apart and clean it. This means fewer motor replacements (this was the only part other than filters that needed replacement three times over the life of our old fountain). I will only warn people that the fountain isn’t quiet (which I know bothers some people). I like the sound of running water, so this doesn’t bother me, but it can be picked up on conference calls if you are in the same room as the fountain. This is one of the reasons we have it in a hallway (or bathroom doesn’t have an easy access outlet). That being said, even with its basic look and natural noise, it is the best fountain for large dogs on the market.

5 animals in the home and they all prefer this
I got one of these off of chewy several months ago, before we had a large 3-4 gallong steel bowl, and one of the 5 gallon tank on the back waterers. when I got my first fountain, I noticed the 2 dogs and 3 cats draining the fountain before touching the other 2 waterers. I found it cheaper on here than chewy so ordered a second. i got 2 of the 2 gallons, I refill them with a pitcher every other day and deep clean them both every weekend. ordered extra filter parts (the sponge around the pump and the charcoal filters) replacing each once a month. they are super easy top take apart to deep clean and put back together as well. Just make sure you don’t let it go empty as running dry can kill the pump.

Great water dispenser.
My dogs love to drink running water so I bought this water bowl dispenser and it works great. The only issue is that my dog’s beard makes it dirty pretty quickly. But then I think their older water bowls are much worse.

I have some seriously picky and probably paranoid cats. I think we’ve finally picked the right water fountain. We had a ceramic one that was too heavy to pick up and clean weekly for the human, and they also get dirty even with bottled water. Then, there was the stainless steel fountain that NO ONE would go near because of those funhouse cat faces staring back at them. Nope, not tricking them into the dark side! Then there was the black plastic one that was (according to the cats) probably the monolith from 2001 Space Odyssey that was definitely created to capture the feline species and hurl them into an unknown void. Nope, not going there either.So, the human servant found the nice grey plastic square Lloyd-Wright design that was not quite instantly approved but has been accepted by the picky trio! At last!Nice fountain, easy to put together but I would triple rinse the filter with all the carbon in it. We had a large PetSafe fountain many years ago and had to part with it because the old guy who was a young guy destroyed it. It was his personal water park. Therefore, the floor stayed wet from his attacks. Now, he’s old and this one seems safe.The fountain works great so far. It is lightweight and easy to take apart to clean, the flow adjustment is a nice feature. It can splatter if it’s set too forceful. So far, so good. I think with regular maintenance, filter replacements and pump cleaning it should last a long time…they will let me know if their acceptance changes. I think we got a winner!

Poor filtration system, loud
I was excited to buy a bigger water fountain for my 2 dogs and 3 cats. My 1/2 gallon ceramic fountain had to be filled so often, especially during this heat wave we have a lot of it evaporate during the day. The old fountain had a very quiet motor and filtered water very well; the water simply had to be replenished too often. I value PetSafe brand products and was excited to receive this. Setup was easy. My dogs adapted to it immediately. First impression was I was surprised how loud this fountain is. I might as well leave my kitchen sink faucet running all day; it really is that annoying. Most importantly, it doesn’t do what a filtered fountain is supposed to do, and that is keep the water clean. My old fountain only needed a good cleanout and complete exchange every 1-2 weeks. This thing is filthy is less than 1 day. Dirt and debris settled to the bottom. And the aggravation of having to carry 1.5 – 2 gallons of water to sink and empty, take apart, and refill every 2 days is ridiculous. Honestly, at this point it is easier and cleaner to simply have a large dog bowl and empty it out daily. I am on the lookout for a better fountain that is large enough to accommodate all my animals, but still keep the water as clean as possible

Cat seems to like it
Pros: Cat drinks out of it. Cat does not seem to understand importance of hydration despite my many lectures. Water bowls ignored but cat likes running water and drinks from this. Water flow to dish easily controlled. Replacing filters not a big chore. Very little maintenance required, just filter upkeep.Cons: Pump only mildly efficient at removing stray hairs and the occasional leaf. Does require an occasional rinsing of bowl but is not difficult task. Can be a little heavy and bulky to pick up if full of water.

This is a great water dish for pets because it is easy to dismantle to clean. Even the pump cover can be removed to clean out any debris. My cats and dog love it and use it exclusively.

Very pleased with the outcome. My dogs love the fountain. We have 2 dogs and it is large enough that they can drink from it at the same time. It is easy to clean and it is quiet while running.
