Excellent dog food!
Our older dog has developed a strong allergy to chicken, and also can’t tolerate much fat, so we switched to this. She loves it and has been eating it for over a year. Her gut health is finally under control, she is the perfect weight and the fatty lumps on her sides have slowed down considerably. Very happy with this product.

Veterinarian Formulated and Recommended
I cook my 11.8 yr old senior dog’s vet approved and necessary low fat diet due to having liver issues and trouble digesting fat. SquarePet VFS Digestive Support Low Fat Formula Dry is given as a small evening snack for him with water added. My vet approved using it for this as well. He loves it and has not experienced any trouble digesting SquarePet. If I ever quit cooking his diet, per the ingredients in this low fat food, I would feel confident feeding this full time for his liver issues.

Safe low fat diet
This is the best low fat dog food… even lower than the food my vet prescribed. And within the fat range for dog. My 12 year old dog has pancreatic issues and needs a low fat diet. He likes this food and is healthier now… Do the math..there is a formula to figure out the fat. I don’t trust grocery store dog food as the fat was too high for my dog. The customer service is great and you will get a quick response to any questions or concerns.

The right formula for pancreatitis
I have a 14 year old dog with chronic pancreatitis. After finally getting her diagnoses, the vet wanted her on a special diet but she would not eat the vet subscribed food. So I had to go on the hunt and found this food! She loves it, its the right formula and is working good, no flares! This company provides lots of different formulas for both cats and dogs. Highly recommend!

Great for a dog with pancreatitis
After doing numerous internet searches trying to find an alternative dog food that was low in fat (I was purchasing a name brand that I had a prescription for but it was getting difficult to get), I found SquarePet. I liked that it was very low in fat and I didn’t need to bother my vet again for another written prescription. As others have mentioned, it seems like some dogs like the taste and some dogs don’t. My dog ate a bowl just as dry kibble but then wouldn’t eat it. I had to mix it with low fat cottage cheese and he ate it. He did eat the plain dog food 2 more times but would eat it on a regular basis if mixed with the low fat cottage cheese.I started with purchasing the smaller quantity bag just in case he didn’t like it at all as I didn’t want to buy a huge bag for nothing. If you’re thinking about buying this dog food I would suggest starting off with the small bag then if your dog likes it you can save some money and purchase the larger bag. It is a good low fat dog food.

Excellent low fat dog food!
Our 8 year old dog has treated hypothyroidism and suddenly developed diarrhea that was not responding to vet treatment. All lab tests came back normal except high triglycerides, suggesting she may not be processing fats well. She’s been on a high-quality dog food, but it has a fat content of about 16%. Our local independent pet food store owner suggested we try SquarePet’s Low Fat Veterinary Formula, which contains only about 6-8% fat. We are thrilled with our dog’s response after only a week on SquarePet! She loves the taste of the kibble and licks the bowl clean at every feeding! Even better, her stools are solid again and have actually decreased in size and volume, a bonus for the humans who pick up after her! I like the fact that this high-quality veterinary formula is available without a prescription. It’s more expensive, but well-worth the price. I enjoyed perusing the SquarePet website, learning about the history of this new company and the care that goes into their line of specialty foods for dogs and cats. If you cannot find it locally, it is available on Amazon and its website.

Low Fat Food For Miniature Schnauzer
I was trying to find a low fat food for my miniature schnauzer that didn’t need a prescription, and I came across this. While it hasn’t happened to my mini schnauzer yet, her breed is prone to pancreatic problems due to fatty foods. I’m trying to prevent that from happening. So far so good! She eats it without giving me any “schnauzertude”…it also comes in a nice resealable bag.

Concerns about carnitine and scales/bones
I have bought Squarepet Low-fat Ocean Whitefish dry dog food for my dog for several years. However, I recently realized that this formula may not include carnitine (per the ingredients listed on the actual package), which is very important to heart health, etc. I reached out to the company about this but have not heard back as of the time I am writing this review. I will be switching my dog to a formula that I am sure includes carnitine. Also, I occasionally see what appear to be small scales or bones sticking out of the kibble, so I’d advise keeping an eye out. I contacted Squarepet about this and they replied it was probably scales, though could very rarely be bones I see.
